BMW i3 Electric Car

BMW plans to offer the i3 electric vehicle for a price tag below €40,000 in Germany when the edition is launched in the European continent by 2013.

This will mean that the i3 will have an asking price much lower than the Opel Ampera, a plug-in hybrid that currently goes for sales in Germany around €43,000.

This compact electric car from BMW will be built at their Leipzig plant in Germany. It is remarkable that the BMW i3 has its torso and other parts manufactured using carbon fiber components to keep weight down.

We know carbon fiber is an expensive material to produce. However, we feel the €40,000 tag is little over the top for an urban-dwelling minicab. May be, BMW is charging for all the luxury elements that come along.
